As with many of my activities, I am flying with this blog a little by the seat of my pants. Not sure how this idiom originated. Maybe Aladdin of Arabian Nights had his magic rug pulled out from under him and literally had to fly by the seat of his trousers. That could certainly qualify as an unforeseen event lacking a plan to keep moving, except straight down. This blog did not start accidentally, but, short of a few mental notes, there is no detailed plan on how to keep it moving.
Flying by the seat of my pants means to me, starting a project without a final design. I love to take an idea, take inventory of my available supplies and resources, and get the project done by adjusting the design to fit what I have to work with. This kind of process is exciting to me and makes me tick. To me improvisation is the mother of innovation.
Since I got the ball (blog) rolling, it developed a little like a snowball rolling down a hill, picking up material on its way and gaining in size. Who knows what impact the snowball will make in its path, or what kind of sculpture it will end up being by the time it ends up at the bottom of the hill? And likewise, I don’t know what, if any, impact this blog will have on its way to the end of its life cycle, or what it’s legacy will be. A wise man once said, “adventure is in the journey, not in the destiny”, so I will just try to control my blog the best I know how, as it picks up speed, and who knows what else, rumbling down cyber hill.
The power supply, the fuel-cell so to speak, that keeps me ticking and going, does not come so much from rewards for doing a good job (that would place me in a shaky position), as for the sense of purpose that I experience in everything I do, ever since I was granted a new life in Christ Jesus. A life not limited by age or depleting battery, but is life powered by an everlasting-spiritual-fuel-cell, who’s main elements are gratitude and purpose. (A dream concept for the green energy industry)
If purpose in action makes me tick, then the opposite ticks me off.
Don’t get too involved in the world around you, “Eat drink and be merry” is the motto for many, and almost expected of retirees. I have a somewhat different view. Having been working steady and diligently all my life, I am unable to change overnight, just because retirement from my career has arrived.
There is also a lot of misunderstanding about the source and meaning of the phrase. “Eat drink and be merry”. Following the link https://www.gotquestions.org/eat-drink-and-be-merry.html will provide more insight.
Whatever the reason, there is a great deal of “sit back, don’t get involved” out there, when it comes to responding to the cultural turmoil that is going on in our world. Rules and principals of reasoning are on the way out and are being replaced by confusion and empty ideology. Everything is being redefined, including virtues. The existence of universal truth is being challenged and replaced by personal opinions.
John, a famous writer of antiquity, stated “I have no greater joy than to hear (see) that my children walk in truth”
I cannot imagine any parent not agreeing with this statement, and yet, to a large extent, people are blinded or have turned a blind eye, to the indoctrination of our children and grandchildren with a dreamed-up ideology, that denies a Creator, the existence of absolutes, and determines right and wrong by popular opinion.
If in disagreement with cultural development of the magnitude we are presently experiencing, one must speak out. Responding with indifference makes one an accomplice.
