Welcome sojourner. Not sure how you ended up at my blog, but whatever the reason, if friend or foe, it’s the season to be merry, so a very Merry Hopeful Christmas to you. In case you are not familiar with the historical background of Christmas, here is my lighthearted account.
Augustus was Caesar, and Herod was King
When people did travel their census to bring.
So Mary on donkey and Joseph on foot,
to Bethlehem they traveled as fast as they could.
Arriving all tired at the end of days light
Looking for lodging, they experience a plight.
Knocking on doors and hoping to win,
They only found “there is no room at the Inn”.
Mary is expecting, and looking quite round,
No time can be lost, a bed must be found.
Joseph is searching, but is not able
To find anything but a lowly stable.
No time to consider the what or the maybe,
Mary is busy delivering her baby.
No place to put her own weary head,
She lays little Jesus in a crib for a bed.
As Mary is resting and the baby asleep,
Shepherds at pasture are guarding their sheep.
The sky it was starry, and silent the night,
When an angel descended, all glorious and bright.
The shepherds were startled and shielded their eyes,
Bewildered and scary, escape might be wise.
However, the angel assured them of peace,
Sit down and listen, to my message, please.
God’s promise of old, though prophets refreshed,
A baby is borne, it is God in the flesh.
Christ Jesus the Saviour, is borne today,
To bring you salvation, the means, and the way.
The shepherds, they marvel as the look upon high,
When armies of angels appear in the sky.
To God be the glory, to all people good will,
The chorus of angels proclaim, then its still.
The shepherds they hurry, to Bethlehem, as invited,
To find the Christ child, they are so excited.
They arrive at the stable with nothing to bring,
But gratitude and praises for the new borne King.
Gloria, in excelsis Deo,
Gloria, in excelsis Deo
As joyful the twitter their friends, and they text,
One question remains, what will be next??
You must check back one day for the rest of the story.
Merry (1) Hopeful Christmas to you all. Horstt
(1) It was just pointed out to me, and I fully agree, Christmas spent isolated from friends and family does not sound very merry, but we do have hope in Christ no matter our circumstances.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
